Plasma Technology is both a military and economy research. It unlocks the Plasma Turret, increases resource production empire-wide, and reduces building construction time.

Requirements

To research Plasma Technology level 1, you need:

  • Research Lab level 4
  • Energy Technology level 8
  • Laser Technology level 10
  • Ion Technology level 5

If you are missing one of those, Plasma Technology stays locked.


Research Cost Formula

Metal      = 2,000 × 2^(level - 1)
Crystal    = 4,000 × 2^(level - 1)
Deuterium  = 1,000 × 2^(level - 1)

Production Bonus

On live s2, Plasma Technology gives +10% per level to the final Metal, Crystal, and Deuterium production calculated for each planet.

The formula is:

plasma_bonus
  = base_resource_production × (0.10 × plasma_level)

final_resource_production
  = base_resource_production + plasma_bonus

Plain-English Version

The game first calculates your normal production using:

  • mine level
  • planet temperature
  • planet position effects
  • economy speed
  • current production factor from Energy

Then Plasma Technology adds its bonus on top of that finished number.

Building Time Bonus

Plasma Technology also shortens building construction time:

final_build_time
  = base_build_time × (0.90 ^ plasma_level)

What This Means For Players

  • Level 1 = 10% shorter building times
  • Level 2 = 19% shorter than base time, because the second level applies to the remaining time
  • Level 10 = about 65% shorter than base time, not instant

This bonus applies to building upgrades, not ship construction and not research time.

Why Plasma Is So Strong

Plasma Technology is valuable because it helps three different goals at once:

  • stronger defense through Plasma Turrets
  • stronger economy through a universal production bonus
  • faster infrastructure growth through shorter building times

That makes it one of the best mid-to-late game multiplier researches.


Strategy Tips

  • Research it earlier if your empire is economy-focused and already energy stable.
  • Research it earlier if you plan to defend heavily with Plasma Turrets.
  • The production bonus scales best on worlds that already have strong mines.
  • Plasma gets even better after expansion because the bonus applies empire-wide, not just on one planet.
